I write to all of Bendigo in the hope that I may continue to be so.
You see, today was what I can only describe as a "close call day", of which there are far too many.
Without going into too much detail, a car failed to give way, let alone stop in a car park intersection, travelling at an estimated 50km/h, and very nearly cleaned me up.
The driver's answer when I confronted them down the road was "Oh, I didn't even see you".
Well, maybe that's because you didn't even slow down to look while you sped through that give-way sign.
The road is my workplace.
We as posties can only do so much to increase our visibility.
I have high-visibility clothing, a light on the front and rear of the motorbike.
I ride defensively and try to expect the unexpected.
I only ask that you take care when driving on the roads - look twice, wipe off five, and turn on your headlights if the weather is bad.
While you may call me Pat, Bill or the postie, please remember there are also people who know me as Son, Husband, Brother, Friend and Daddy.
None of us want to see the Bendigo Advertiser's headline titled "POSTIE DEAD".
