No politician has ever asked those involved in the rail system how to address the rail issues.
Politicians, whether federal, state or local, should always remember that without common interest, collective action and responsibility disappears. Or have we descended to a level in our democracy where only those with the necessary capital, numbers or conviction and confidence can stop or fight planning blight and poor decisions?
Conviction and courage require a strong sense of values, a clear sense of purpose, and the courage to pursue those values in the face of strong opposition from vested and political interests.
Leadership, whether in politics or business, requires large amounts of conviction, courage and communication with the people - secrecy is for dictatorships.
The question is, are our leaders worth following, and if not, where does that leave us?
Is the process of returning the budget to a sustainable surplus going to ease the efficiency with which government performs its own tasks, or increase the efficiency of its interaction with private industry?
The treatment of farmers, educators, ambos and our transport system has not made government or private investors more efficient in all services for the people, nor is it a better monetary outcome for all.
