A RESIDENTIAL property abutting the former Bendigo Psychiatric Hospital is among 35 sites throughout Victoria the state government is preparing to place on the market.

The site at the former psychiatric hospital covers just under 1200 square metres and sits at the corner of Green and New streets, North Bendigo.
More than one hectare of the Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre is also on the list to be prepared for sale.
Victorian assistant treasurer Gordon Rich-Phillips said the Malmsbury site is surplus land.
"The Malmsbury site refers to a remnant 1.1 hectare parcel of surplus Crown land in Ross Street, Malmsbury, on the western edge of the Malmsbury Youth Justice Centre," he said.
"(The psychiatric site) does not refer to the main site of the former Bendigo Psychiatric Hospital, but rather is a parcel that abuts that site."
The list of assets throughout Victoria includes 10 former schools, six police stations and government depots to help build funding for infrastructure spending ahead of the November state election.
One hundred square metres of the Swan Hill Police Station on Curlewis Street is also included.
The state government began an audit of state assets following the 2010 election to identify those that could be put up for sale.

The online list of properties was also part of an election promise to deliver "unprecedented transparency" in the large-scale land sale program.
Craig Webster Real Estate director Craig Webster said the residential land abutting the former psychiatric hospital could fetch between $120,000 and $130,000 for the state government.
"It looks like an old standard quarter acre block," he said.
"They certainly wouldn't have much trouble finding a buyer for it - North Bendigo has improved a lot.
"You would expect the buyer to look to build a couple of townhouses on it."
