On Monday, $1 from every pizza sold will go to Conservation Volunteers Australia, which will use the money to improve a bandicoot sanctuary at Woodlands Historic Park, near the Tullamarine Airport.

Kangaroo Flat and Bendigo Domino's Pizza owner Duane Powell said he was hoping to raise at least $800 from the initiative.

Mr Powell said he was happy to give back to the Victorian community.

"It's a very important charity as a sustainable environment affects each and every one of us and we are asking the community to come down on Monday August 4 to show their support," he said.

Conservation Volunteers Australia volunteer engagement officer Adam Smolak said $800 could buy vital equipment needed to protect the bandicoot enclosure.

“Eastern Barred Bandicoots are extinct in the wild, and working with the Victorian recovery team, our program at Woodlands Historic Park has helped bring the population back from only 20 animals in Australia to over 400 animals in the last few years,” Mr Smolak said.

"Because they're extinct in the wild they need secure environments away from foxes and cats."

Mr Smolak said the money would go towards improving the sanctuary's fences and paying for a high-tech camera system to ensure the bandicoots were properly monitored.

He said the Domino's fundraiser was taking place in conjunction with The Age Run Melbourne event, which was held on Sunday, with Conservation Volunteers Australia members taking part. Mr Smolak ran in the event and raised more than $1000 towards the bandicoot enclosure.

The Conservation Volunteers Australia Facebook page says about $5000 was raised from the event.

Mr Smolak said the breeding project had yielded excellent results and helped create secure homes where Eastern Barred Bandicoots could flourish.
