Police have set up crime scenes at the Riddells Creek and the Bolinda-Monegetta CFA fire stations after both were broken into and ransacked on Saturday night.
A CFA statement said police were trying to determine what items had been taken.
''A recent model four wheel drive support vehicle was taken from Riddells Creek station and set alight in Melton around 6:15am this morning,'' the statement said.
''Both these brigades were heavily involved in the Mickleham to Kilmore fires earlier this year and it is devastating that essential fire-fighting equipment that services the community has been taken.
''Police would like the community to be on the lookout for any suspicious activities seen around fire stations and contact them if they become aware of anyone who may be able to help with their inquiries.''
