It says the family of the man has been notified of his death.
UPDATE 8PM: Senior Sergeant Troy Hargadon says the death of a man at Eaglehawk tonight "doesn't seem to be suspicious".
The CIU is investigating the circumstances of the incident, which occurred at 6.30pm.
It is believed a man died after suffering fatal injuries in a bonfire.
The deceased person is yet to be identified.
Four CFA crews that extinguished the blaze have now left the scene; detectives remain at the house to further investigate the matter.

UPDATE 7.15PM: Police Media has confirmed one person has died following an incident at Church Street, Eaglehawk tonight.
It is believed the person suffered fatal injuries in a bonfire at the backyard of the house.
The Crime Investigation Unit are currently on scene to determine the cause of death.
Police, CFA and paramedics are also attending.
EARLIER: The Crime Investigation Unit have been called to a fire at Church Street, Eaglehawk.
Police, four CFA tankers and paramedics were called to the scene at 6.29pm today.
Police have cordoned off a house in the street and are currently interviewing neighbours regarding the incident.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said paramedics were on scene, but two MICA vehicles had been cancelled.
