This weekend is the multicultural round in the Bendigo Football Netball League.
Hamilton said as part of the celebration, AFL Central Victoria would introduce Australian Rules football and netball to the region’s newest Australians.
“It is an opportunity for people who are new to our country, and it is chance for us to teach them a little bit about our culture,” he said.
“We want to learn about them and they can learn about us.”
The showcase game will be between South Bendigo and Kyneton at the Queen Elizabeth Oval at 2.20pm on Saturday.
“We have a lot of multicultural people coming along to the game and we will have people who will sit with them and teach them a bit about the game,” Hamilton said.
“For many of them it will be there first game of Australian Rules football.”
Hamilton said it was important for the community to make new Australians feel welcome in Bendigo.
"Australian Rules has been successful for over 100 years of integrating people into our society," he said.
"Sport is a way of bringing people together."
