Jake "Nunnzy" Nunn was riding his motorbike with a group of friends on a private property on the outskirts of Bendigo on June 7 when he hit a tree stump.

Jake was flown to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne and underwent major spinal surgery to stabilise his shattered spine.

Jake is now a T4 complete paraplegic, meaning he has no movement or feeling from his chest down.

Some of Jake's nearest and dearest have been selling wristbands with the message 'Pain is only temporary' and have placed fundraising tins at various businesses.

Jake's cousin Tiffany Brain contacted the Bendigo Advertiser at the weekend to share news a tin full of money had been stolen from Valleygirl at Bendigo Marketplace.

"I actually work there," she said.

"The police are involved but I just can't believe someone would be so low as to do that.

"We don't know how much money was in it but some of the staff said they'd seen people put notes in it as well as coins.

"It had information about what it was for written on it so it's just hard to believe someone has taken it."

Meanwhile, Jake has started rehabilitation at the The Royal Talbot Rehab centre in Melbourne. 

He can move his arms and hands and can now shower and dress himself with his friends and family describing his progress to date as "positive".

But he still has a long road ahead with money from the fundraiser earmarked to provide him and his family financial assistance for medical expenses.

Bendigo businesses have demonstrated their generosity with Joe's on the Go pizza shop in Eaglehawk hosting a special night and Bella Blue Cafe donating profits from a fundraising breakfast event last week. The fundraising team is also organising a gala night with details yet to be finalised.
