A hospital spokesperson said from a clinical perspective this was an improvement in condition.
The motorcyclist was attempting to evade police interception on Friday morning about 10.30am and rode up onto a footpath in Golden Square before crashing into a reversing car, which was carrying a woman and two children.
The woman and her children were uninjured in the collision.
UPDATE, SATURDAY, 8.30AM: A motorcyclist who collided with a car after evading police in Golden Square is in a critical but stable condition at The Alfred, a hospital spokesman said.
The man was riding along a footpath when he crashed into a car carrying a woman and two children reversing from a private driveway about 10.30am on Friday.
He was fleeing police.
The Major Collision Investigation Unit travelled from Melbourne to Bendigo as part of the investigation into the short police pursuit and crash in Golden Square.
"It was in a very, very short space of time before the member determined it was too dangerous to continue the pursuit," Inspector Talbot said.
"But unfortunately at that time, almost immediately afterwards, this collision has occurred."
The man was taken to Bendigo Health with serious injuries and was later flown to The Alfred.
FRIDAY, UPDATE 3.20PM: The motorcyclist injured fleeing police after a short pursuit at Golden Square will be flown to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne for further treatment.
A Bendigo Health spokesman said the rider was in a critical but stable condition.
Kirby Street in Golden Square remains blocked as police continue investigations into the pursuit and crash.
UPDATE, 12.17PM: Police have confirmed the pursuit only lasted "a couple of seconds".
"It was in a very, very short space of time before the member determined it was too dangerous to continue the pursuit," Inspector Talbot said.
"But unfortunately at that time, almost immediately afterwards, this collision has occurred."
Inspector Talbot said the woman and children were in shock but uninjured.
"It's fortunate the motorbike hit the car where it did which is on the front wheel, probably the strongest part of the car on this type of collision," he said.
"If the motorbike had hit the passenger compartment there could have been serious injuries sustained by them."
Inspector Talbot said every police pursuit was subject to a review.
"In every circumstance, an independent body looks at it," he said.
UPDATE, NOON: A motorcyclist was riding along a footpath when he crashed into a car carrying a woman and two children reversing from a private driveway, police have confirmed.
The Major Collision Investigation Unit will travel from Melbourne to Bendigo as part of the investigation into a short police pursuit and crash in Golden Square.
"Earlier this morning, about 10.20am, a police member on a routine patrol saw a motorbike he thought he'd like to pull over and check, just for general roadside intercept," Inspector Michael Talbot said.
"In Kirby Street he made an endeavour here to intercept the motorbike, at which time the motorbike got onto the footpath and rode away at a fast speed.
"The policeman determined that it was too dangerous to pursue the motorbike, so he notified the police communications he was going to abandon it - which he did.
"Moments after he did the motorbike has struck a car on a footpath which was reversing out of a private driveway.
"The male local motorbike rider was taken to Bendigo Hospital with life threatening injuries while the occupants of the car, a woman and a couple of young children, were uninjured.
"Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision, and major collision investigation unit from Melbourne are on their way up to take over the investigation."
UPDATE, 11.37AM: Bendigo police Inspector Michael Talbot has addressed the media at the scene.
It is believed police had terminated the pursuit before the crash.
An ambulance spokesman said the motorbike rider has been taken to Bendigo Health for treatment.
He is a serious but stable condition.
The extent of his injuries are not know at this stage.
UPDATE, 11.11AM: It is believed the motorcyclist involved in the accident was in a police pursuit.
Bendigo Advertiser photographer Peter Weaving is on scene and says police are about to do a media press conference.
EARLIER, 11AM: Emergency crews have been called to Kirby Street, Golden Square.
It is believed a motorcycle has collided with a vehicle.
An ambulance media spokesman has confirmed paramedics are on scene.
