The exhibition Stepping From The Shadows: The Brave Girls of Fairy Tales was created by photographic artist Lorena Carrington and is a precursor to the Write on the Fringe Festival that will be held from August 7-9.

" I started (the installation) about a month ago but it has been an ongoing project for  a few years," Ms Carrington said.

"I have been working with theme of strong girls in fairy tales from the pre-Golden Age, around the Victorian Era.

The theme of heroic girls in fairy tales meant a lot of research for Ms Carrington as well as creating the artworks.

She has used a variety of mediums in the installation with a terrarium featuring natural elements laser cut aspects, a photo montage that includes more than 80 photos layered together and photos printed on transparent paper to create a 3D photo.

"I think it ties in quite well (with the festival)," Lorena said.

"It should be a great festival and I am excited to see what else is happening."

City of Greater Bendigo coordinator of arts and culture Maree Tonkin said The Write on the Fringe Festival provided a platform for artist exploring something unique.

"The way Lorena has put this installation together is really good," she said.

"She has used a variety of mediums and it fits beautifully with the Fringe."

Ms Tonkin said the library was the perfect hub for the festival.

"We had 100 youngsters here for story time today, there was always so much activity here," she said.

"That's why we have centred the Fringe here. It's a chance for the community to get on board and connect with artists, writers or creators.

"There is so much in the program. I'm looking forward to the pop-up zine studio which will give people the chance to have a go at self-publishing."

The Write on the Fringe Festival is on from August 7-9.
