CENTRAL Victorian athletes on a sporting tour of Canada have run, jumped and thrown their way to medals at their opening track and field competition.

Campbells Creek thrower Mackenzie Cooper was in superb form at the Jack Brow Memorial Meet in Kelowna, about 400km north-east of Vancouver, last weekend.

Competing in the 14-15 years age group, the athletics newcomer claimed gold in the javelin and added two silver medals to his haul in shot put and discus.

Collin Mayes, from Bendigo, scored bronze in the 14-15 years triple jump.

Maryborough multis athlete Lewis Cain was part of the Sports Travel Australia team that finished second in the 18-19 years 4x100m relay and also picked up bronze in the 16-17 years long jump.

Thomas Smith, from Echuca, was also a member of that silver relay squad.

In the women's events, Rochester's Morgan Dingwell threw well in the 14-15 years age group to finish third in the javelin and discus.

The youngsters will be back in action this weekend at the Trevor Craven Memorial Meet in Vancouver.
