Guodong hit back from a 4-3 deficit to win the final two frames of an aborbing battle with Peter Ebdon at Bendigo Stadium.
The contest began with Ebdon's break of 108 to win the first frame.
Ebdon led 2-0 after a 71-35 in frame two.
Guodong struck back to win the next two, 65-30 and 70-1.
A 65-11 victory in the fifth put Ebdon back in charge.
Guodong won frame six, 63-50, but a break of 54 on the way to a 90-1 victory in the seventh put Ebdon a frame away from progressing to the quarters.
Ebdon raced to a 60-0 lead in frame eight, but Guodgong hit back with a break of 67 to keep the contest alive.
The ninth and final frame ended in a 75-46 victory for the Chinese ace.
