The charges come five months after the two-boat collision on January 10.
Courtney Keast, 12, was with her best friend and their family at Lake Eppalock when the incident occurred.
Courtney suffered serious head injuries as a result and lost her fight two days later.
Almost six months later, a 45-year-old has been charged with a single count of contravening the collision convention.
The charge falls under the Marine Safety Regulations Act 2012 and is the equivalent of failing to give way.
The man will face the Bendigo Magistrate's Court on July 21.
