STRATHFIELDSAYE'S Glenn Ashby has won the European championship for international A-class catamarans off France.

A silver medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and multiple world title winner, Ashby dominated against a field of 106 in the race for Europe's title.

Sailing against competitors from 13 nations, Ashby won eight of the nine races in which he started.

The sailing champion did not contest the 10th and final race.

Ashby demonstrated the latest foiling techniques around the race course.

Wing Trimmer for Emirates Team New Zealand, Ashby worked closely with designers in the recent America’s Cup in San Francisco.

Ashby won the A-class world championships sailed off Takapuna, Auckland last January and is Victoria's reigning male sailor of the year.

He has headed directly to Ireland to compete as helmsman with Bendigo's Brett Goodall at the F18 world championships.

Ashby is a dual winner of Bendigo Advertiser Sports Star of the Year which is now in its 50th year and proudly supported by Prime 7 and Bendigo Bank. .
