GISBORNE police have located the owners of three horses which died after a car hit them in Gisborne South.
They are yet to talk to the owners to establish how the horses escaped.
The driver of the car remains a serious condition in the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The woman, in her late 60s, was driving along Millett Road about 6.30am Thursday morning when she collided with the horses in the dark.
Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said the woman suffered head and facial injuries in the crash and was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.
