Avoca man to stand trial over mine death

AN Avoca man charged with being an accessory to murder has been committed to stand trial in the Supreme Court in Melbourne on July 18.

Stewart Hutchinson, 30, faced a committal hearing in Bendigo Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Police allege Hutchinson helped dispose of missing Deer Park man Ricky Lee Ganly's body in a flooded Avoca mine on April 29, 2013.

His co-accused, Jesse Willis, 28, of Maryborough, has been charged with Mr Ganly's murder.

The victim was last seen by his girlfriend at his Doherty Street home in Deer Park on April 28 last year.

Phone records showed he was in Avoca between April 28 and 29.

Mr Ganly's body, which had a single gunshot wound to the back of the head, and his Magna sedan were recovered from the mine on January 19 this year
