BENDIGO businesses are supporting local artist John Lingard in his bid to win The Voice.
Five Bendigo businesses have so far filled their window displays with posters of the singer and Chancery Lane has been temporarily renamed Lingard Lane in his honour.
Robe owner Fi Rooke is supporting Lingard by giving customers an extra 10 per cent off when they vote for him in the store.
"He is a worthy contestant," she said.
The move comes after Lingard performed live-to-air on television on Monday night - for the first time since the show began.
He performed David Gray's Babylon and received a standing ovation from Kylie Minogue and Will.I.Am.
Lingard said he felt positive about the performance, though he said it was "a bit crazy" he had reached the live performance stage of the singing competition.
"Everyone is exceptionally good," he said.
Lingard said at this stage of the show he was being more critical of his performances.
He said previously the performers were singing to the coaches, the crowd and the camera.
"You can almost feel the audience at home watching you through the camera," he said.
Lingard said it was more intimidating performing live because there was no room for error.
He said it was a more intense experience.
Lingard said he was pleased with his performance but felt there was room for improvement.
"Because the song is so tailored to David Gray's voice I was concerned I might sound a bit karaoke," he said.
"I found it to be especially challenging on the first live show."
He said he hoped the performance would be something people would connect with.
"Let your ears be the judge and if you like what you hear then vote for me," he said.
"If viewers honestly liked my performance then I would love their support."
Lingard, along with the rest of Team Kylie, travelled to London last week.
He said he had become better friends with Kylie during the trip.
