About 35 competitors from across Victoria took part in the annual competition at the Bendigo Stadium on Tuesday. 

Balloon Football is a sport that follows the game of Australian rules. 

Fitzgerald said it was a fantastic day of competition.

She said it isn’t about who wins or loses, it was about having a go and trying your best. 

“It is not only a chance for the players to socialise and catch up with one another it is a chance for them to play a competitive sport,” Fitzgerald said. 

“It shows that people of all abilities can play a competitive sport.”

Sports Education Development Australia and Nazareth College students were also on hand to support the players.

Fitzgerald said about 100 spectators watched on throughout the day, with the two Bendigo teams winning both the A-grade and B-grade competitions. 

She said it was the first time the tournament was played in Bendigo. 

“Bendigo began it’s own league a couple of years ago and it has been going strong,” Fitzgerald said. 

“We are absoultly thinking about coming back next year.”
