Ms Rice visited the forest with members of the Wellsford Forest Conservation Alliance on Saturday, as part of a listening tour of the state.
"The Greens are 100 per cent behind the campaign," she said.
"The forest is important - not only for its conservation values but recreational purpose as well."
The alliance hopes, by making it a national park, it will be preserved for future generations.
The City of Greater Bendigo offered its support at a council meeting in May.
