The Bendigo netballer was one of 12 players from around the country to be selected in the first intake of the newly formed Netball Centre of Excellence Program.
The program will see Watson involved in a full-time individualised daily training environment beginning in August.
At the end of the eight-week program, the 12 athletes will take compete in a tour of South Africa.
Former Australian captain Michelle Den Dekker was appointed head coach of the new program.
She said the selected athletes will be able to fast track their development as they will be immersed into a professional and elite environment.
"These athletes have been identified as potential future international representatives, so we want to establish performance behaviours that enable their transition to be seamless before they take that next step into the Diamonds," Den Dekker said.
Earlier this year Watson starred for Victoria at the Australian 21-and-under titles.
She earned a spot in the national team.
The former Sandhurst star defender is currently playing with the City West Falcons in the Victorian Netball League.
The Falcons, who finished on top of the ladder, will play in the semi-final against Boroondara Genesis on Wednesday night.
