John Alexander Forbes, 24, of Westmere, appeared briefly in the Bendigo Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning; his case was adjourned until later this year.
Forbes has been charged with culpable driving, dangerous driving causing death, driving while under the influence of alcohol and failing to stop and render assistance.
The charges follow the death of 35-year-old Yarraville woman Katie Broadbent, who was found deceased in a collapsed tent just after 9am on Australia Day.
She was attending a music festival held at a private property in Rochester.
Police allege she was run over about 5.50am.
Mr Forbes will face a committal mention on August 20.
