It may have been a cool winter's day but the mood at Bendigo showgrounds was decidedly hot.
Vintage car lovers from all over Victoria flocked to the Rod Stock & Custom show on Saturday.
The event runs for three days and includes hot rod driving, a vintage car display and rockabilly music.
Organiser Andrew George said the hot rod community needed an event that offered both a static display of cars and an opportunity to drive.
"There are so many show and shines on in Victoria alone but we needed something where we could get back to the old school hot rod, rock n' roll, rockabilly style," he said.
"You get a lot of these cars and people put so much effort into the paint ... into making it look so shiny that they don't really like to get it out there and get it dirty.
"You've got two class groups - you've got the pure show people who will rope off their cars and then you've got the guys, the average working class guys, who have a hot rod and want to drive it."
He said the event offered a controlled environment where people could burn off steam.
"It gives them an outlet," he said.
Mr George said 3000 people attended the event on the Saturday and he was expecting more to attend on Sunday.
