A CFA spokesman said a car had caught fire in a garage in Farran Street, Castlemaine about 7pm.
Crews from Castlemaine, Campbells Creek and Chewton brought the fire under control within 15 minutes.
A second car fire at Bagshot closed the V-Line passenger rail line for about 45 minutes as firefighters worked to clear the scene.
The CFA spokesman said a car had caught fire alongside the rail line at Bagshot just after 6.30pm and the rail line was re-opened about 7.15pm.
The cause of both fires has not yet been determined.
