Mr Zini, 65, was killed on Tuesday after he lost control of his vehicle and collided with a tree at Charlton.
A family friend, who does not wish to be named, said Mr Zini was a man who kept to himself but was well-known around the town.
"He worked with my father," he said.
"He was an outdoor person, a keen shooter and he liked to be self-sufficient with his own vegetables."
The family friend said Mr Zini lived in Charlton for most of his life and worked several different jobs.
He said had been married once but did not have any children.
"Seeing him around town will be where people will miss him," he said.
"He was a local identity."
