The meeting
We met through mutual friends and it truly was love at first sight. Jonny is a blokey bloke and he took me to the Easter greyhounds in Bendigo on our first date with his friends Leon and Danielle Nixon.
At this stage I was thinking hmmmmm ok then, the good old dogs for a first date. This is interesting. The night went off fantastically and a second date soon followed. We went to a game of AFL in Melbourne and a very romantic night at World Restaurant and Bar on Southbank. To this day I couldn’t say which date was better as every minute spent with Jonny is just perfect no matter where we are or what we are doing. We have basically been inseparable since that first date.
The proposal
It happened the morning of my birthday, after we had been living in Cairns for just over nine months.
Jon said to close my eyes as he had to get my present out of the cupboard.
He was gone for ages and when he said “open your eyes” , he was down on one knee with the most amazing dream ring I had ever seen. He asked “will you marry me” and I cried, laughed, and cried and laughed some more, until he said, “soooo is that a yes?” Of course it was a yes!
The wedding day
It was the most amazing day we could ever imagine. The sun was shining and it was truly the best day of our lives. We had 105 family and friends who travelled from all over Australia, (mostly from Bendigo).
We were married at Little Cove Port Douglas followed by a cocktail party reception at the famous Tin Shed overlooking stunning views of the ocean. Prior to the reception the bridal party had photos taken at Little Cove and ANZAC Park while guests enjoyed refreshments on the waterfront.
The dress
The dress was purchased from a local bridal shop in Cairns, Divine Bridal. It was a white strapless fishtail Jadore wedding dress. It featured a strapless sweetheart neckline, with an intricate crystal beaded trim at the bustline. It was ruched and tightly fitted to the hips flaring out to a gorgeous ruffled fishtail skirt.
The cake
I designed the cake and Sweetly Sliced in Port Douglas made it. The cake was definitely a hit on the night and we followed with individual cupcakes made by the Cup Cake café in Port Douglas.
The photography
The photos were taken by Tamara Kate Photography.
The honeymoon
The happy couple plan to honeymoon on the Whitsunday Islands in July this year as they have already had a two week mini honeymoon in Port Douglas with their family and friends and plan on going to Vietnam next year.
