A ROYAL Melbourne Hospital spokeswoman said a 53-year-old Echuca man is in a stable condition after being flown to the hospital on Thursday following a car crash in Toolleen.
A second man, 40, who was driving the vehicle, died at the scene.
Police believe the driver swerved to avoid colliding with a kangaroo.
The accident comes after two fatal car accidents in central Victoria in the past two weeks.

A 40-year-old man from Moama died in Toolleen yesterday morning when the Ford Territory he was driving crashed into two trees.
A second man, who was a passenger in the car, was airlifted to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with pelvic and chest injuries, in a serious but stable condition.
The injured man was a 53-year-old from Echuca.
Police said the accident took place about 6.55am on the Northern Highway, near Gibb Road, and the car was travelling south.
Leading Senior Constable Kris Sutton of Campaspe Highway Patrol Echuca said police believed a kangaroo was involved in the crash.
"(The car) either veered or struck a kangaroo, which caused the car to deviate," Leading Senior Constable Sutton said.

"It proceeded to strike two trees.
"As a result of this collision the driver of the vehicle is deceased."
He said the road was notorious for kangaroos.
“It appears to be the time of year (kangaroos) get up and about looking for feed, with the recent rain conducive for them to be feeding.
"Quite often you see a number of dead kangaroos on the side of the road."
He said there were several witnesses to the crash travelling in cars behind, who administered CPR to the victims before emergency service personnel arrived.
He thanked the witnesses for their actions.
Leading Senior Constable Sutton said it appeared speed was not a factor in the crash.
There were no visible skid marks on the road.
He said the accident presented motorists with a timely reminder to take care on the roads.
A police spokeswoman said the men's next of kin had been notified of the crash.
Police, the Country Fire Authority and the State Emergency Service attended the crash site.
A kangaroo lying dead near the scene of the crash was hit by another car travelling behind the one involved in the fatal accident.
