A 65-year-old man was killed after he lost control of his vehicle at Charlton on Monday.
The Charlton man was travelling east along Back St Arnaud Road when he lost control and collided with a tree.
The man, the sole occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene.
Sergeant Nigel MacDonald said police were waiting on the results of an autopsy.
“For some unknown reason the vehicle has gone off to the southern side of Back St Arnaud Road and has travelled along the grass, verged in a straight direction for about 150 to 200 metres and then it has gone head-on into a tree," he said.
"It could have been a medical reason that has caused him to go off the road and at this stage there is nothing to substantiate that.
"We are waiting the outcome of the autopsy.”
Also on Monday a woman died and a man was seriously injured in a crash at Killawarra near Wangaratta.
Police were told the car appeared to have drifted to the wrong side of Wangaratta-Yarrawonga Road, 16 kilometres from Wangaratta, and crashed into a tree stump just before 3.30pm.
Both crashes follow incidents where pedestrians were killed in road accidents.
The most recent was the death of a 26-year-old man at Tanjil South near Moe on Monday.
A car hit a man, who police say was lying on a road, at Heathcote on Thursday night. The man, believed to be in his 20s, died at the scene.
The Victorian road toll now stands at 102, 10 more than the same time last year.
Wet weather was the suspected reason behind a car crashing into two trees after it veered off the road in Golden Square on Tuesday.
Paramedics, police and CFA attended the scene in High Street at 10.15am but the male driver received no major injuries and was not transported to hospital.
A police spokesman said the man left the road and hit two trees, with his car coming to a stop after hitting the second tree.
