The Blues took on their fierce rivals at Strathdale's Beischer Park.
The home team led 1-0 at half-time and went on to achieve a 2-1 victory.
Strathdale's goals were struck by Jon Bryers and Nic Watson.
The Blues did concede an own goal.
The second-placed Spring Gully kept the heat on the Blues by scoring a 4-0 win at Epsom.
Goalscorers for the Reds were Josh Baum, Sam Walker and Jakob Van Dalen. Epsom also conceded an own goal.
A double by Dylan Callaway was a highlight in Colts United's four-goal win against Golden City.
Playing on home turf at Strathfieldsaye, Colts United led 4-1 at half-time. City's sole reply was through Josh Hutchins.
Colts went on to win 5-1 in a match where Callaway, Malcolm Durno, Joel Gitsham and Josh Raeburn were on target.
Best players for Colts United were Durno, Callaway and Gitsham.
Golden City's best were Hutchins, Jacob Kaye and Hugh Molenaar.
After five rounds, Strathdale leads Spring Gully by four points in the championship race.
The Blues have struck 16 goals and conceded just two in their five-nil run.
Spring Gully's record is three wins and two draws. The Reds have scored 15 goals and conceded three. Next best in the title race are Colts United seven, Eaglehawk four, Epsom three, and Golden City nil.
Meanwhile, a dozen goals were struck in the women's championship match between Epsom and Spring Gully on Sunday.
Despite having home-pitch advantage, Epsom trailled 4-1 at half-time.
The Scorpions struck back brilliantly in the second half as Jacinta Dikkenberg went on to achieve a game-high four goals.
A superb contest ended six-all.
Goalscorers for Epsom were Dikkenberg, four; Megan Williamson and Tara Thomas.
The Spring Gully attack was led by Mia Killick, two; Claire Scarlett, Ally Van Dalen, Gabrielle Young and Jade De Marchi.
Epsom's best were Jacinta Dikkenberg, Caitlin Green and Rebecca Adams.
The ladder-leading Colts United was too strong for Golden City at Strathfieldsaye.
Colts led two-nil at half-time and went on to win six-nil.
Liz Watkins struck six goals for Colts. Bethany McDonald and Alishia Stratford also beat City's defence.
Best for Colts United were Watkins, Holly Hays and Sara Berry. Golden City's best were Kristen O'Connor, Tayla Hogan and Brianna Smith.
The clash at Strathdale ended in a 5-0 win for the Blues against Eaglehawk. Goalscorers and best players were not supplied.
