The club was founded in May 1974.

The Bay Riders car club and Sultan clubs from across Victoria joined with Jadis to celebrate on Saturday.

More than 50 people gathered for lunch.

Club spokesman and long-time member Wayne Mayes said the name for the club had come from the french word 'jadis' meaning 'of old'. 

"We went with that name because we liked that it was a bit quirky and a bit different," Mr Mayes said.

"My belief is the club started with a group of men drag racing.

"We love these cars and we love them modified.

"Imagine getting a rusty car and it ending up looking like it could be in a magazine."

The club celebrated at The National hotel with a display of custom cars and hot rods in the rear carpark.

"Over the years we have taken cars to events at the jail in Castlemaine, special shows at the showground and we also do fundraisers for Ronald McDonald House and other charities," Mr Mayes said.

"We like to put back into the community."

The group is made up of people aged mainly over 50.

"We say, as a group, let's just enjoy life while we have it," Mr Mayes said.
