Mr Boby founded the Law and Freedom Foundation - a law firm that was set up in 2011 with the intention of helping communities stop mosque developments.

The foundation's website states that Mr Boby has successfully prevented 16 of 18 planned mosque developments in Britain from going ahead.

"We call what we do empowering local communities to decide their fates," the website states.

"By contacting us in the early stage of a planning application, we can offer you assistance, advice and support to get your concerns heard by those elected to represent you."

The group is opposed to a proposed mosque development in East Bendigo and more than 130 objections have been lodged with the City of Greater Bendigo. 

The Stop the Mosque in Bendigo Facebook page reported the Bendigo group had raised $2323 for Mr Boby's services but needed $5000 to pay for Mr Boby to visit Bendigo.

"Gavin Boby has agreed to assist Bendigo to stop the mosque," the Facebook page reads.

"We need a fighting fund of $5000 to bring him out."

Mosque spokesman Heri Febriyanto said he was not concerned about the group's move.

"To be honest, we are living in a democratic country so everyone has their right to do what they think is good according to our law," he said.

"We had a couple of meetings with the council in the past and we have more meetings coming up."

The Stop the Mosque in Bendigo Facebook group did not respond to requests for an interview.
