The appeal is on Saturday and Sunday and the Bendigo Salvation Army is asking anybody who would like to help to get in touch with them.
The Salvation Army Bendigo captain Andrew van Gaalen said the organisation had seen increased numbers of people relying on its services in the past year, and it was expecting numbers to rise further after recent Federal Budget announcements.
"We have a lot of clients who come to us who aren't paying their utility bills and are going without meals," he said.
He said if people wanted to doorknock they could register by calling 137 258 or by going to The Salvation Army's Mundy Street church at 9am on Sunday.
He said the charity was hoping to raise $75,000 from Bendigo donations.
