DEPI Loddon Mallee regional manager public land Adam Melis said crews would remove gorse, willow, ash and cotoneaster from water courses and burn the piles.
He said residents should not be alarmed.
"This work around local creeks improves habitat, diversity of plant species, water flow and appearance," he said.
Mr Melis said when conditions became favourable staff would burn the piles of green waste.
