Richards played a vital role in the Spirit's back-to-back Women's National Basketball League championships and she said it was an easy decision to remain in Bendigo.

"This (Bendigo) is home for me now,'' Richards said.

"I've been with the Spirit since the club started. We've been through some ups and downs and in the past two years we've experienced something really special.

"We have a great group of girls at the Spirit and I love being part of the team."

Richards was named to the WNBL All-Star Five for a second-straight season in 2013-14.

She averaged 14 points and 9.5 rebounds per game, including a season-high 24 points in round 10.

Spirit coach Bernie Harrower lauded Richards for her contribution to the Spirit's success.

“Having such a dependable scoring option in the low-post is something that any successful team needs in this league and Gabe has given us that and more,” he said.

“She’s one of the strongest players in the competition but also has the skills and touch around the basket to pose match-up problems for opposing teams.”

Richards' two-year deal comes after star forward Kelsey Griffin re-singed for three years.

Richards and Griffin give the Spirit one of the best frontcourt one-two punches in the WNBL.

"Kelsey is not only a great player, she's a great person as well,'' Richards said.

"I'm very happy to be playing alongside her again."

The Spirit will unveil a new recruit at a press conference at Bendigo Stadium on Tuesday morning.
