With the chances of regaining Echuca FC from the Goulburn Valley Football League now slim to none, the BFNL, if it so desires, can turn its attention to the Sunbury Lions.
At first glance, Sunbury is a good fit. It’s only 15 minutes further south from Gisborne and the Lions and Bulldogs would generate a huge rivalry. Sunbury's financially strong, with a sports club at its home ground, and on-field it hasn’t missed the finals in 17 years in the Ballarat Football League.
The question for the BFNL is – does it do all it can to bring in a potential power club that will only make life harder for battling present-day clubs like Maryborough, Castlemaine and Kyneton?
Interesting times ahead.
