Telstra customers in Castlemaine, Faraday, Harcourt, Newstead and Guildford will soon be connected.
Through the NBN, Telstra aims to ensure a fast and reliable connection for students in the region.
Telstra Country Wide Area General Manager for Northern Victoria and Sunraysia Steve Tinker said the Telstra services marked the beginning of a new era for locals.
"For young people living in regional areas, having access to online lectures or digital libraries is essential for their education," he said.
"26 percent of Castlemaine residents are under the age of 25 and having consistent access to educational support can be a real advantage."
From launch almost 1100 homes and businesses are eligible to connect to wireless services.
