Athletes tackle Ocean run

BENDIGO University Athletics Club is well represented in this weekend's Great Ocean Road Run.

Athletes across a wide range of ages and abilities will contest various distances on Saturday and Sunday.

University's competitors include husband and wife Alan and Jenny Buchanan in Sunday's 45km marathon.

The Buchanans have raced in many of the big marathon classics around the world. Alan has contested more than 40, with Jenny lining up for her 32nd. The marathon is from Lorne to Apollo Bay.

Many in University's squad will race on the undulating and windswept course for the first time.

University clubmates heading for the Great Road Road Run are Steph Armstrong, 23km; Sue Briggs, 23km; Michelle Burke, 45km; Marion Carter, 45km; Melissa and Ross Douglas, 23km; Tony Fahy, 45km; David Grimes, 45km; Nicole Hopley, 23km; Russell Jenkins, 14km; Julie Matthews, 45km; and Emma Moylan, 23km.

Olivia Douglas, 5; and Ruby Douglas, 2, will run in the Children's Gallop.
