Firefighters attended a home in Aspinall Street, Golden Square, at about 7.15am.
CFA Lieutenant Darren White said the fire had started in a kitchen, and the woman had used a fire blanket to put it out.
Mr White said the incident showed the importance of having fire blankets and smoke alarms.
