Chair Michael Fleming said the commitment meant that the redevelopment of the Bendigo Airport now had an improved chance of receiving funding.

"As stated in our BIG IDEAS publication, we've acknowledged that improving transport services and infrastructure in Bendigo is our number one priority; therefore the funding allocated to infrastructure should further assist this process," he said.

Executive officer Patrick Falconer said that the council was mindful of cuts to health, education and welfare.

But he said that the main Budget policies that would affect businesses were the company tax policies, incentives to companies and infrastructure funding.

"As a business organisation representing more than 300 members, we take into consideration first and foremost how businesses will potentially be affected when an announcement such as the Budget is made," Mr Falconer said.

Major business policies announced in Tuesday's budget included policies to slash corporate welfare and to set aside $50-million to assist manufacturers who transition to competitive industries.
