The event was part of celebrations for the 25th year of Volunteer Week.
Bendigo Volunteer Resource Centre research and project officer Ellen Kelly said volunteering helped build the community.
"Without our volunteers we wouldn't have people to help our most vulnerable," Ms Kelly said.
"We wouldn't have meals on wheels, companionship programs, tree planting, financial assistance or help for families with special-needs children," she said.
The event attracted high school students and retirees alike.
Special Olympics Victoria volunteer John Haggarty said the efforts of volunteers through his organisation help young athletes achieve things they never thought they could.
