BENDIGO's Justine Harrington has participated in Bendigo's Mother's Day Classic every year since it started six years ago.
Mrs Harrington and her son Flynn, 13, ran the eight-kilometre course at Sunday's event.
"We do it with family every year to support breast cancer sufferers," she said.
"This year has a more specific meaning for us because a friend of the family is suffering breast cancer at the moment.
"It's great to see so many people here. There are always little people in prams and it's a great atmosphere."
Mrs Harrington is preparing for another challenge – walking 60 kilometres in The Weekend to End Women’s Cancers in February for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
"There are 11 of us and we're hoping to raise $50,000," she said.
The team is called Team Teal – Walking to Heal. Find them on facebook for more information: www.facebook.com/bendigoteamteal
