St Luke's staff uncertain as mental health reforms impact service

ST Luke’s will no longer deliver mental health services in the Loddon Mallee southern catchment.

The state government today announced major changes to the way community-based mental health support was delivered across the state.

The changes are part of the recommissioning of $74 million per year in Mental Health Community Support Services.

The reform consolidates funding from 11 different funded programs into four.

Budget's petrol shock will leave voters fuming

Motorists will pay more for fuel in future and it looks set to keep rising as Prime Minister Tony Abbott prepares to break his no "new taxes" promise for a second time – this time by taxing petrol at a higher rate.

The plan, which the government refused to officially confirm, compounds another tax increase to be announced in the budget – a special deficit levy on higher income earners designed to raise about $2.5 billion a year for its duration.

Balcony death still raw for family

A MAN whose son died after falling from a balcony says he does not accept the Deputy State Coroner’s finding into the death.

Gregory John Caulfield died in November 2011 after falling from a housing commission balcony.

His father, John, is looking to appeal.

“It’s a disgrace,” he said.

“All we got was a written copy. We went through the findings with the solicitors today. I wasn’t happy with them at all.”
