Police followed the vehicle for 15 minutes but were forced to call off the pursuit after the driver of the commodore reached dangerous speeds about 3.30pm.
Maryborough police Sergeant Steve Cunningham said the driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, had escaped.
He said the driver was believed to be a man and aged in his late 20s.
Sergeant Cunningham said police would investigate.
"In relation to driving at excessive speeds, it is not only a danger to yourself but also other road users," he said.
"We believe we know who the driver is but will make further inquiries."
Sergeant Cunningham said police from Bendigo, Bridgewater, Inglewood, Boort and Raywood had also attended.
