The ceremony celebrated 131 years of Girton education in Bendigo and the 21st anniversary of Girton Grammar School.
School captain Thomas Duke said the event was about celebrating the school's long history.
"For the school it is about recognising the path it took to reaching the point where it is today," he said.
"It is a time to pause and to reflect, and to think about the people who came before us."
Thomas and fellow school captain Amelia McNair said they were honoured to be elected to lead the school.
"It is a great honour," Amelia said.
"I see it as a opportunity to make a difference," Thomas said.
