"At the local level my role is to make sure community education is kept to the forefront of a resident's mind," he said.
"When there are campaigns we ensure the publications are shared properly in the community.
"We provide a presenter to bring the latest bushfire information."
Mr Grimes said the group spoke to all ages about fire safety.
"I get to the elderly citizens groups in the winter to talk about fire safety," he said.
"We also go to the kindergartens."
Mr Grimes initiated a new video for fire safety training.
"The film goes for 12 minutes and is divided into four sections," he said.
"We are pleased with it and it is now used throughout the region as a training DVD for school education groups."
Mr Grimes joined the brigade and community group after moving to Maldon from Adelaide 10 years ago.
"I am involved in doing really important jobs in the community," he said.
"I found that it was important for people to give time in regards to fire safety."
