Under the Anzac Day Act (1958) cinema and entertainment restrictions apply on Anzac Day from one minute past midnight until 1 pm.
The Shop Trading Reform Act 1996 restricts non-exempt shops from opening until after 1pm on Anzac Day.
“The trading and entertainment restrictions are in place to prevent distractions that would lessen the significance of Anzac Day,” Mr Northe said.
Fines of more than $14,000 can be issued to business in breach of either act.
