The fire broke out about 1.30pm on the Heathcote-North Costerfield Road.
CFA duty officer John Breakes said five tankers attended the blaze, with crews working on scene until early evening.
He said the fire had totally destroyed the flat and parts of a nearby caravan and annex.
"The fire was brought under control by about 1.45pm but the last tankers left at 6pm," he said.
"Fire investigators also attended the scene and determined the fire was caused by an electrical fault."
A fellow CFA spokesman said the granny flat had been evacuated.
Mr Breakes said the fire brought about a timely warning as winter approached.
"This is the time when we start having more house fires," he said.
"We urge people to be careful and vigilant around heaters and electrical appliances and check power cords before turning things on."
