EARLIER: A MAN produced a paint scraper and threatened a bus driver over an argument about a bus fare, police say.
Two men aged in their 20s were arrested in a paddock near Bendigo Pottery on Monday.
Police removed several bags of evidence from the scene.
Leading Senior Constable Darren Scherger said the men had had an altercation with the driver.
“The two males were riding the Bendigo bus,” he said.
“They failed to pay for their fare and when confronted by the bus driver they started arguing.
“One of the men threatened him and pulled out a small scraper and decamped on foot into the Epsom area.”
The men had stolen property from a nearby shopping centre, Leading Senior Constable Scherger said.
“They were found to be in possession of stolen property from the Epsom Shopping Centre, alcohol and some torches,” he said.
“They’ll be taken back and interviewed in relation to theft and assault.
“We have to work out where they’ve been and what they’ve been up to and go from there.”
About six police officers responded the incident, which occurred about 12.45pm.
Leading Senior Constable Scherger said the men, who live in the Bendigo area, were co-operative when arrested.
The bus driver has not been spoken to.
