The day was held to seek community feedback on Hazeldene's plans to upgrade its waste water treatment plant and introduce an offsite irrigation project.

The offsite irrigation project has been met with concern from several neighbouring residents, who believe their livelihood would be at risk if the project went ahead. 

Managing director John Hazeldene said key issues included Hazeldene’s management of waste water, site selection for the proposed irrigation and the quality of the water.

He said the company had agreed to improve and focus more on communication to the local residents. 

 “We believe the site is ideal for broad acre cropping with irrigation," he said. 

"Hazeldene's has agreed to put padlocks on the centre pivots so no access can be gained. 

"We also offered anyone who is interested to come and inspect the water that we are intending to irrigate, but this was declined."

The matter rests with the Environmental Protection Authority.
