McKenzie’s stable star Matt’s Entity has drawn the outside box in the Group Two final.
“That draw probably suits him,’’ McKenzie said.
“The big three dogs in the final (Black Magic Opal, Paw Licking and Ronan Izmir) have drawn together towards the inside.
“If they cause each other any trouble then we’ll be in the clear on the outside.
“It’s going to be might hard to win the race considering how strong it is, but I’m just glad I’ve got a runner in the race.”
A win on Sunday night would be McKenzie’s biggest thrill in greyhound racing.
McKenzie purchased Matt’s Entity from Tasmania and the greyhound has won 22 races from just 35 starts in his care.
“He had 12 days off before the Cup heat, so that run should have topped him off nicely for the final,’’ McKenzie said.
To recognise McKenzie’s achievement, the Bendigo Greyhound Racing Association will donate $500 to the McGrath Foundation as part of the Go The Pink Dog campaign.
“On top of the $500 already going to the GTPD fundraiser just for Matt's Entity making the final, should he win the Bendigo Cup on Sunday the Club will donate a further $2000 to the McGrath Foundation,’’ BGRA manager Troy Harley said.
“If he finishes second then the donation will be $1500 and $1000 will be donated if he finishes in third place. It's extra incentive for the Bendigo community to cheer on the local hope this weekend."
