Fans witness rallies aplenty

TABLE tennis fans witnessed many rallies in Thursday's play at the Oceania championships in Bendigo.

Region powers Australia and New Zealand led their respective groups going into the night matches of the men's teams event.

New Zealand won all five rubbers against Fiji.

After spltting their results on day one, Fiji was outpointed by the Kiwis. All matches were decided in three games.

New Zealand's Zhiyang Cheng beat Fiji's Jun Park, 11-4 11-3 12-10.

Vanuatu scored a 5-0 victory in the morning's play against Papua New Guinea.

In Group A, Australia dominated against New Zealand.

Closest match in a clean-sweep by Australia was the four-game contest between Kane Townsend and Laurent Sens.

Townsend won 11-5 in the fourth game.

The composite team beat Tuvalu, 5-0.

O'Brian Itaia beat Alan Resture, 11-9 9-11 11-6 11-7.
